30 September 2016

Wake me up, when September ends.

It is the end of September and I have been awake since 5am. (You guessed it – I’m at the hospital.) So it’s only natural that this song is playing on loop on my mental radio.

(Funnily enough, Green Day is one of three concerts I’ve been to, ever. I used to really like them. Not so much anymore – their music does get old over time.)

I just logged in to OneNote on my new phone for the first time. I needed my Skype password which I saved on there, and while I’m at it I decided to sync all my notes.

And the quantity of notes I’ve taken on it – whoa. It’s like I used to live on OneNote. Work, study, leisure – it has everything.

Here’s an example:

This is from 2014, when I was preparing for my final exams at university. It’s interesting looking back. It appears I was quite methodical about my revision, and it’s nice to see I ticked off most of the items on my list.

(Other subjects don’t look so neat – I’m not going to show you those.)

I like making to-do lists. Here’s one from when I was working:

I was working as interpreter/assistant/coordinator with a small press agency. It didn’t feel boring at the time, but looking at this list it comes across as being pretty dull.

Ah well, all the better that I’ve moved on to the service industry now.

Anyways, my point is: it’s nice to revisit these snippets from the past. Makes me think of past accomplishments (let’s not dwell on failures). Thank you OneNote.

There is however one elephant in the room: the Novel section.

I have everything on there: details of scenes to write, plot of story, ideas for spinoff novels. I do not dare open that tab for fear that I will combust in shame.

I haven’t touched my novel for… it must be about a year now? For shame. For shame.

This November though I’m planning to do National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) with a friend from work. I think that will put me in a habit of writing again and, hopefully, hopefully, I will feel inspired to action.

So yes, in December you will surely see a post from me declaring that I have restarted my novel! Hoorah!

We’ll see… we’ll see.

For now, take care and lots of love,

Val
